Yusuf & Nazli own ‘The Kombuis,’ the restaurant. They call themselves total BoKaapers.

Two of the most renowned chefs in the world asked Nazli recently to teach them Cape Malay cuisine. Jan Hendrik V.der Westhuizen, our Michelin Star Award winner, is the other. Hans Valimaki, a double winner of the Finnish Michelin Star Award, is the other. Andrew Zimmern hosted Nazli’s show on The BBC Travel Channel.

Bo-Kaap Kombuis are unique in that their cuisine is freshly prepared every day. This would normally increase the cost of food by a lot, but Nazli & Yusuf explain that they want everyone to have access to their food, not just those who can afford it. We want everyone to enjoy our food.

Yusuf says that their dedicated staff is the heartbeat of the success tale. They were all general workers in their previous jobs. They were all skilled workers when they arrived at the Kombuis. Nazli guided them through a rigorous learning process. They are now budding chefs. Yusuf tells them that one day they will be able open their own restaurant.
